The Institute of Texan Cultures
The Institute of Texan Cultures is one of three University of Texas at San
Antonio campuses located in the city.
Opened in 1968 as the Texas Pavilion at the Hemis Fair, the exhibit did so
well that it was expanded and has been open ever since. It contains over 50,000 square feet of exhibit space and welcomes thousands of visitors every
year.
Most famous for its Texas Folklife Festival, held every June, the institute
puts on several programs every month, which are open to the public. The programs are aimed to promote multicultural education and diversity.
Other features of the Institute include a museum, photographic archive and
library.
