The Majestic Theatre
Finished in 1929, the Majestic Theatre is one of San Antonio’s most beautiful displays of historic architecture. Designed by John Eberson, this structure offers visitors the opportunity to sit among elaborate chandeliers, intricately crafted wall designs (including peacocks and cupids) and a domed ceiling, on which stars twinkle and clouds drift.
After a rich history as a movie cinema, the Majestic Theatre stopped serving as a theatre for films in 1974, and after it was renovated by the Foundation for Cultural Arts in the late 1980s, the theatre was named a National Historic Landmark. Now home to a wide variety of shows, from musicals and plays to opera and symphony performances, the beautiful Majestic Theatre is an important piece of San Antonio’s history.
