Sophienburg Museum
The Sophienburg Museum and Archives are dedicated to preserving the history of New Braunfels and its founders.
In the museum, hundreds of artifacts are on display, along with exhibits demonstrating the lives of New Braunfels settlers. Included are displays like a small blacksmith shop, a workbench and
hand tools and crafts of pioneer women.
The Sophienburg Archives holds hundreds of thousands of public documents, personal papers, photographs, newspapers, books and periodicals. Many of the materials date back to the 1850s, and are open to researchers.
The Sophienburg Museum is located at 401 West Coll Street and the Sophienburg Archives are located at 200 North Seguin Street. Admission is charged for museum admittance, and researchers are charged per day for access to the archives. Translators are also available for an hourly charge.
